Presenting Print

I think the way in which print is presented should reflect the content and ethos of the design itself. I really like the way in which the above print has been presented; it isn't just laid out on a table, surrounded by other print collateral. I think this would work extremely well with my Hope brief if I were to continue it on and produce I lookbook.

Shop Front Design

I think this shop front works really well. It is simple and concise; there is a simple colour palette used and an interesting application of type. This design seems to create an image in itself whereby all the elements come together to produce the exterior visuals of the shop. I could see this simplistic design working well with my Hope clothing boutique and the simple design I am proposing. If I have the time, I want to work on designing the store front.

Pandora Digital Presentation

The way in which Pandora display their online presence in their promotional booklets is very professional, it is concise yet allows the audience to easily see what is on offer to them. I think the way in which Pandora display their website pages is particularly effective. I want to try to use this style of presentation within my design boards.

Dock Street Arts

After our event this weekend, our work has been left up at Dock Street Market as part of Dock Street Arts and as a result our logo has appeared on the flyer (although he accidentally used our old logo design). This is essentially providing us with another platform in which we can showcase our work to another audience.

Paper Stock for Hope print colaterall

I have used this stock for the 80th invitations I designed last year and have decided to use it again for this brief. I think the silky texture will work really well against the blind emboss of the Hope logo.

National Trust Shop

I want to propose my cards are sold in National Trust shops around the country, in-store and online.

Embossed type

I had a look through my type journal as I wanted to find some examples of embossed type and knew I had some in there. I found this Chloe and Marc Jacobs type. This is exactly the level of execution I want to product for my Hope type, however, it is going to be difficult for me to manually line this up correctly. So, if this fails I may blind emboss the type as seen below...

open/closed signs

I want to extend my range of deliverables and produce and open/closed sign for Hope, after all, a small boutique like this will need one. I have been looking at the layout of traditional signs but they all look boring and corporate, I want to produce something a little more design lead that keeps in line with the Hope branding I have created.

The sign below is a fine demonstration of a more considered design, it has the boutiques logo laser cut and leaves the sign freestanding in the window, a very nice touch.

Presenting my tees

I think this way of presenting the tees on a clean wooden hanger is simple and keeps the attention on the tshirt and no background distractions. I am going to try and get hold of a wooden hanger so that I can present my tee range in this way.

Tom Ford

This hasn't scanned very well, but it is a Tom Ford card which you spray perfume on. Nevertheless, it has inspired me; the Tom Ford type is embossed and gold foiled with the rear side blank. This has got me thinking that for my Hope business cards I could emboss the Hope logo, using the colour scheme I have designed, or a blind emboss could look effective here. It is also printed on a coated cream stock which allows the embossed type to sit very well upon. Lots of considerations for me to make here.

Stock for Hope

As I am working on the website and app design for Hope clothing, I need images of their stock to work with. They do not currently have a website, so I have been on their Facebook page and taken a few images.

e-card research

I was going to propose that with everyone of my RSA greetings card, the buyer also recieves one free ecard. However, I wasn't really sure what an e-card entailed and after looking, I have found that are pretty much just short animations. Animation is not an area of design I wish to delve into, so I am going to leave that simply as a design idea!

Simple Print Collateral

Again, this is another example of print collateral that utilises a simple colour palette.

I want to have this use of simplistic vibrancy within my inpress print collateral.

Colour Scheme

The simplistic colour scheme works exceedingly well here; through the printed material it portrays a sense of grandure and expense. This is what I want to portray through my Hope branding, so I am going to use a neutral colour scheme of cream and white, with the addition of black.

Paper Stock

I want to find a quality paper stock that I can use to print my Hope branded print collateral on. I want it to allow the ink to sit well on it in order for it to look expensive and bespoke. Ideally, I would like it to be cream of white to tie in with the colour scheme. I have had a look at London Graphic Center as it was suggested to me by one of my peers, I think the stock has potential, but I feel I need to be able to touch the stock in order to really tell. Nevertheless, I am going to have a browse...

Innovative Hanger Design

I am looking at producing my own hangers for my UrbanTease range. This design is very simple yet effective in its use. I am not sure I have enough time to be able to produce something of this nature, nevertheless, it would have been possible had I have considered this earlier. This is something that I need to consider when working on my final major project; the available to me and the time it is going to take to produce high end design.

Hanger Design

I am looking at creating my own hangers to use for my UrbanTease stock. I am going to try screenprinting onto a hanger but I have come across these embossed hangers which look highly professional. This effect could be achieved through lasercutting, however, I think my products would benefit from the use of the colour coding system I have in place on the hangers themselves too.

ASOS swing ticket

My housemate Liv bought an item from ASOS, I disregarded the clothing item and was more interested in the label!!! The ASOS logo is debossed into the thick stock on the front and has a plain black reverse. I like the simplicity of this swing ticket and think this design idea could work really well using my colour palette for Hope clothing.

Print Collateral

I think using a two colour palette on white stock can make the design look fresh, well designed yet playful. Following this design direction could work really well for the inpress print collateral, especially considering that we have four colours to utilise.

Blind embossing

I am considering blind embossing my Hope print collateral. I want to use a neutral colour scheme, I was thinking a cream colour but this darker shade seems to work well in creating shadows to show off the embossing.

Inpress Wayfinding

We are considering how best to publicize the fact that we are holding a shop to those in Dock Street Market.

I think applying the type directly to the walls works really well, however, I am not sure we are going to be able to do this. So we will need to speak to Jake (the manager) and it may be the case that we just have to use a large scale print to mock this look.

Friday 23 November 2012

Reindeer

I am going to use this image of a reindeer to draw my own reindeer for Christmas card designs to sell at the inpress event.

I am going to use the following image as inspiration for the style of the illustration I want to create. I do not want it to be a life replica, but instead have a more quirky feel.

Seed Packet Instructions

I am looking at seed instructions and how to inform people to plant seeds, I realised I had a packet of seeds that my brother gave me so I had a little look to see how they explain the steps.

These instructions are simple and to the point. I like the fact that they make it fun by the addition of the '5 salad facts'.

Coloured tape & wrap

I have been designing a print to produce on tissue paper, which will then wrap the tshirts before they are placed in the box/carrier. This idea of coloured tape would work exceedingly well with the colour coding system I am proposing for the Urban Tease collections. If I could find some which match the colours of my designs, this could be an option.

Unleashed

Unleashed is a shop run by third year graphic design students, like us, who also sell prints. I think this demonstrates that by running these events we are moving in the right direction and helping us and others to get out work out into the real world.

Design Visibility Quotes

Design is intelligence made visible.
~Don Newgren
Good design is obvious. Great design is transparent.
~Joe Sparano
Good design is a lot like clear thinking made visual.
~Edward Tufte
I want to use a quote concerned with the visibility of good design as it will allow me to use embossing in a clever way and will relate directly to the type present. The three quotes above seem most apt to my concept.

Box and Colour

I think the use of a different coloured box around the empty space (or where the type would be positioned in the case of a letterhead) could work considerably well with the inpress colour scheme. In effect it would produce a sort of border around it.

High End Fashion Brand Web Design

After looking at the fashion boutique web designs, I wanted to look at the higher end fashion brands web design so I can try and reign some of the design into the Hope branding.

Boutique Web Design

I have had a look at web design to get some visual inspiration for how I could apply my logo to web design and bring the brand to the web.

Fashion:: Store Design

I have been looking at the store design to see how the logo design is applied to the shop and the promotional material.

Coloured Print Collateral

I am proposing to design the inpress print collateral using the four inpress colours. I have now come across the above design which is an example of what I was considering; I want to four designs which are all the same, apart from the colour. I also think it will work well if the reverse is the same colour to contrast with the white front.

Notebook Pattern

I want to produce a pattern to be printed on the seeded paper inset that the user can then colour in, so I have been looking at a few geometric patterns to inspire my own design

The National Trust

I took a trip to a National Trust Park on Saturday, here at the visitors shop they were selling cards. I made me consider the fact that I could sell my RSA cards in a place like this. I would be targeting the correct audience; people who care about the environment and want to help preserve the natural landscape.

One Sided Embossed Business Cards

This one sided embossed business card looks very well designed and considered in respect to the print processes that it uses. Niall and I want to use a design similar to this for our business card design; we want one side to be flood coloured one of the inpress colours and the other side to contain the inpress contact information. Minimal but informative and to the point.

Clothing lines sold in Hope

I am going to look at the branding of the labels sold within Hope to give me a sense of what their branding should represent. These are my first impressions....

Barbour

bespoke, minimal, authentic, heritag, expensive, cultural, timeless

UGG
